Buster Cupcakes

Buster Cupcakes
Buster and I are making all the cupcakes out of "Hello, Cupcake" by Karen Tack and Alan Richardson, like Julie Powell did with Julia Child's "Mastering the Art of French Cooking". We are open to gimmicks of any flavor!

Hey, nice cupcakes!

Pump up the Joy!

An occasion for me to perform AND bring the cupcake joy! All we need is more outfits for Buster and dance moves to complete our entertainment enterprise! The kids loved the cupcakes and I think Mr. Filmschool did clap after my solos... but being the solo sax player- isn't it all solos? Anyway, an original jazz klezmer composition and 100 cat, dog and Star of David cupcakes kept us busy for awhile. We did create a Youtube video combining all the fun which may be one reason we didn't get around to blogging, but it could also be that there were so many amazing photos we couldn't pick the best ones. Here is the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XEtZv07Bf-g
so easy to put videos in the blog, I might have to post them all....
OH- Buster's cupcake photo went viral! Over 600,000 views on imgur and posted on about 10 other sites- it hasn't gone to his head to be famous- he still just likes doing tricks for treats!

World of Warcraft- you love it- we'll bake it

We are loving our heart -shaped Daddy-O cake pans! Just like a famous baker on TV made for his mother- must be super special! We had to try a practice gluten-free, honey-sweetened, flourless chocolate cake- and we determined that it was too death-by-chocolate for a social chocolate cake eater. With the special imported Valrhona French chocolate ordered off the internet, though, I thought it was one of the best things I've ever tasted. The mocha frosting and whipped cream did cut the chocolate a little bit, and the extra love helped!
I also had a big weekend playing sax, guitar and singing with my band "The Sugar Highs." I made honey-sweetened, vegan chocolate mocha cupcakes with pink glitter guitars, and I copied the lovely logo in frosting! Quite an event! Big news is that Buster did his break-dancing trick at the Assisted Living Center today, previously he had been too shy. Now to meld the cupcakes, singing/sax/guitar playing, and Buster breakdancing into one seemless Bichonoodle Circus Act- we could definitely get a Reality Show!

April Fool's Sugar-Free Chocolate Fluffernutter Cake

Being 'completely incapacitated' for seven weeks lying flat on my back watching "Food Network" did have an upside! I got A LOT of ideas for new cupcakes and cakes and other baked goods.... I actually invented a NEW cake, in the tradition of the Sachertorte and the Princess Cake- introducing: The April Fool's Sugar-Free Chocolate Fluffernutter Cake! Sweetened primarily with honey, this cake has FIVE different kinds of frosting, about a gallon of honey, at least one and half pounds of butter, and three different kinds of chocolate. In honor of and dedicated to my Grammy D. and all her descendants who love Fluffernutter Boston Cream Peanutbutter and Marshmallow Fluff sandwiches- here is a Fluffernutter sandwich made out of CHOCOLATE CAKE, covered in frosting AND ganache AND honey buttercream roses! With edible glitter!

We also made peanut butter cookies with marshmallow fluff- available to ship! AND best news of all, two of the three bichonoodles from Buster's Rescue found new homes and we got to visit them at our favorite dog park! We're keeping our fingers crossed that Marmalade gets better soon and finds a forever home, too!

Bichon Poodles Need New Homes!

Buster and I saved these bichon poodles from a kill shelter through the same rescue group that saved Buster- Doggie Protective Services. They are all cleaned up and ready for their forever homes! They let us pick names- Biscuit, Marmalade, and Waffles. Bichon Poodles are the best dogs ever- they are non-shedding and hypoallergenic, smart, easy to to train, very playful and loving. They love cats and kids and people, and cupcakes!
We also started our Local Lady Farms line, by baking some delicious and sort of good for you honey sweetened lemon raspberry coconut cupcakes. We used eggs from Tina's chickens, lemons from Martha's tree and we were going to use honey from one of Mr. Filmschool's former co-worker's hives but we have other local honey sources! They were so good that our best customer ordered some more, in the shape of coconut marmalade cats. I didn't think that raspberry jelly bursting out of kitty's head would look that appetizing, so we used marmalade. Cookies and cupcakes for all your party needs!

Keep on Rockin' those Cupcakes

All done! 49 down, none to go! Although I will be open for business for any type of custom cupcake you can imagine... as long as they're pink...
The last three designs were the Snowmen, the Nutcrackers, and the Snow Globes. I looked in 6 different stores to find the carrot noses- no go. I used candy corn instead. I think you could use orange starbursts or orange modeling chocolate. I had so many bags of candy and twinkies and gumdrops and modeling chocolate and cookies in the cabinet that I didn't even know I had the one black spice drop left for the snowman's hat on the snow globes. So make sure you pick through all your candy before buying any more! We had a super fun party where we had guests decorate their own cupcakes- such great ideas! I always thought if I ever had a really big event and I was going to get Ace of Cakes to make me a fancy cake- I would get the pink Hello Kitty Fender Stratocaster. I made some for myself out of modeling chocolate! It has been a great adventure- so many fun ideas and such a lovely way to make people happy and do art (that's edible!). We'll keep on rockin' and cupcaking and see you at the next parTAY!

Oh, it's fun to use big words!!! Almost as much fun as sculpting Tootsie Rolls and Twinkies! Winkie Face! Decorating ideas number 45 and 46 were the Thanksgiving Turkeys and the Partridge in the Pear Tree. Three more to go! I have to tell you that there is no such thing as caramel jimmies. Dusty Daly City Professional Cake Store Proprietress told me this a few months ago, and lengthy internet searches have proven it true. It takes a special kind of weirdo to roll out tiny pieces of actual caramels and then mince them and then put them on the turkey with tweezers, but I did that! Then we decided that rainbow jimmies are just that much more festive. Louie likes birds. I'm not so much of a fan, so eating birds of whatever various flavors is my preferred avian interaction. We had a lovely holiday and hope everyone else did, too. Looking forward to some serious cupcaking cheer and then taking our creative endeavors to ever more artful heights- on Dasher, on Dancer!
